According to "Jane (Mary Jane Pilkington McConnell”, Lena Gantner Pilkington was very cold to her mother (Daisey Dewdrop Kunkler) because Daisy was a divorcee with a small son when she married Robert Henry Pilkington, Jr.  When Robert asked if he and Daisy could live with his mother Lena and stepfather Tom Pilkington for a short while following the marriage, Lena is reported to have said "I'm not going to have that grass-widow and her bastard son in my house overnight."  Harsh!   Aunt Lena was a real pip."

DAISY PILKINGTON DIES SUDDENLY; FORMER RESIDENT
 
Mrs. Daisy Dewdrop Pilkington, 50, of Compton, Calif., and formerly of Belleville, Ill., died suddenly at her home yesterday. 
 
She was the wife of Robert Henry Pilkington, who is in the foundry business in California and was formerly with the East St. Louis Castings Company.
 
A native of Carthage, Mo., Mrs. Pilkington was a daughter of Thos. and Ellora Butler Kunkler. Her mother lives at Los Angeles, Calif.; the father preceded her in death.
 
Besides her husband and mother, she is survived by a daughter, Mary Jane Pilkington, at home and a son by the former marriage, Max Kay Hamilton, of Carthage, Mo. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Harry Pilkington. 
 
Mr. Pilkington is a brother of Mrs. Arthur Fickinger, of Belleville. 
 
The funeral will be held in California.
